Wendell Scales Jr. is a passionate and engaged educator who will lead ALA’ss new district vertical launch to reimagine the ever-changing education landscape. As Deputy Director of Innovation, Wendell is dedicated to development in innovation, research, development, strategic partnerships, marketing, and engagement.
Over the last three years, he was the Director of College and Career Advising, at Jacksonville Lighthouse CPA. He supported scholars through personalized and supplemental college counseling to achieve a 97% graduation rate, a 95% acceptance rate, and nearly $20 million in grants and scholarships.
Wendell received an Associates in Business from Arkansas State University at Beebe. A bachelors’ degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance from Henderson State University, and a Masters of Arts degree in higher education with an emphasis in Student Affairs.
Wendell has made major contributions to initiatives in education, mentorship, community engagement, racial equity, and access outside of the office. In 2019 he received the Real Men of Service Award from the 100 Black Men of Greater Little Rock, a six-year and current Vice President. He is a community organizer who led co-organized, Response to Injustice peaceful demonstrations (RTI) and believes in the transformative impact an equitable education can play among our scholars, families, and community stakeholders. He is a graduate of Leadership Greater Little Rock Class XXXV and continues to foster invaluable relationships to improve economic, organizational, and community outcomes in Arkansas.
